    What are cloud egress fees?
    Egress fees, also called data transfer out charges, are what cloud providers bill when data leaves their network for the public internet. Uploading data into the cloud is usually free, but every gigabyte your servers send out to visitors, viewers, or downloaders is metered and charged, typically between $0.05 and $0.12 per GB at pay-as-you-go rates. For traffic-heavy workloads, egress is often the largest single line on a cloud bill.
    How much does AWS charge for data transfer out?
    AWS bills internet egress on a sliding scale that starts at roughly $0.09 per GB and falls to about $0.05 per GB at higher monthly volumes, after a small free allowance. The exact tiers appear in the published rate table on this page (verified July 2026). At those rates, moving 100 TB out of AWS in a month costs several thousand dollars in egress alone.
    Do Google Cloud and Azure also charge egress fees?
    Yes. Google Cloud Premium Tier internet egress starts around $0.12 per GB and Microsoft Azure around $0.087 per GB, both falling at higher volumes. The structures differ slightly, but the result is the same: the more traffic you serve, the larger the egress line item grows, and it never becomes flat.
    How can I reduce cloud egress costs?
    The usual levers are offloading traffic to a CDN, caching and compressing aggressively, and negotiating committed-use discounts at very large scale. The structural fix is to move egress-heavy workloads such as video streaming, large file downloads, game servers, and backups onto infrastructure with flat-rate bandwidth, where transfer volume does not affect the bill at all.
    What is the cheapest way to serve high-bandwidth traffic?
    For sustained multi-terabyte monthly transfer, a dedicated server with unmetered bandwidth is usually the lowest total cost.     Is unmetered bandwidth really unlimited?
    True-Unmetered bandwidth means no per-gigabyte fees and no overage charges, measured honestly at the 95th percentile: your traffic is sampled every five minutes, the top 5% of samples are discarded, and the rest must stay within your plan speed. Short bursts are free, and if your sustained usage grows, you move up to a faster port at a flat price. It is a defined, transparent limit rather than the vague "unlimited" some hosts advertise.
