True-Unmetered 1 Gbps Server FAQ

Is a True-Unmetered 1 Gbps plan right for me?

A True-Unmetered 1 Gbps plan is a strong fit for workloads with sustained, high-volume traffic such as streaming platforms, game server networks, large-scale file hosting, and similar use cases. Your 95th percentile usage for the calendar month must stay at or below 1 Gbps. Occasional spikes above that are completely fine, since your physical dedicated port is often set higher and lets you burst freely. If your traffic consistently exceeds 1 Gbps for extended periods, the next tier up is the better fit. Not sure which plan fits? Our team can help you estimate based on your traffic patterns.

What physical port comes with this plan?

Your server runs on a dedicated physical port that is sometimes different than your server's True-Unmetered bandwidth plan. On a True-Unmetered 1 Gbps plan, that's typically a 2 Gbps dedicated port. You can push the full 2 Gbps capacity during traffic peaks as long as your overall 95th percentile usage remains under 1 Gbps per your bandwidth plan.

Can I upgrade to a higher plan later?

Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time. Changes take effect immediately with no hardware migration and no disruption to your server. If your traffic grows past the 1 Gbps 95th percentile threshold, moving up is straightforward. Explore all available plan pricing with the bandwidth selector on the main Unmetered Servers page.

Do I get full root access?
Yes. Every server includes full root access on Linux or administrator access on Windows, giving you complete control over the OS, software stack, and server configuration. Like any hosting provider, we have an Acceptable Use Policy and Terms of Service that outline what's permitted on our network, and we ask all clients to operate within those guidelines.

Our network is connected to 6 premium backbone providers using 100GE uplinks. We use multiple Points of Presence (POPs) for redundancy allowing us to provide robust connections to even the most problematic network destinations for all clients.

NOCTION SMART ROUTING
The network uses the Noction Intelligent Routing Platform which automatically analyzes routes with congestion or packet loss and then reroutes packets to their optimal routes. This has been shown to improve performance and deliverability by up to 50% by bypassing congestion and packet loss.

REDUNDANCY BY DESIGN
High redundancy keeps your websites and apps online and prevents unexpected downtime. We use Juniper routers with 2 redundant routing engines, 2 redundant uplink connections per switch, and redundant fiber rings. The power supply uses A+B feeds (one feed from main power and one from UPS backup power).
